The Royal Albert Hall is teaming up with Songlines magazine to present Beyond The Beat, a unique exhibition of world music photography by 16 leading photographers.
All the participants have published work in Songlines and the breath of subjects, textures and styles in their work is as wide as the world itself: Sufi trance from Morocco, Touareg guitarists from the Sahara, Gypsy brass bands from Romania, Colombian cowboys, Mexican divas, griots from Mali, Asian dancers…the list goes on and on.
Images of many of the great names in global music will be on show including Fela Kuti, Youssou N’Dour, Tinariwen, Manu Chao, Ali Farka Toure, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Amadou & Mariam, Rokia Traore, Cesaria Evora, Compay Segundo, and many more. Never before has such a broad range of musical subjects been covered in a single photographic exhibition. Go beyond the beat and feast your ears through your eyes!
The exhibition will be on display on the Royal Albert Hall’s Amphi Corridor and can be viewed when attending a performance at the Hall between Tuesday 28 March and Saturday 22 April, or on the following free open days:
