The much-loved festive, annual tradition of Guy Barker’s Big Band Christmas returns in 2020 for its 5th year.
Join us for a swinging, soulful celebration of big band music with a Christmas twist! Guy Barker’s inimitable mixture of jazz classics, unearthed treasures and Christmas oddities will put a swing in your step as the festive season kicks off.
Jazz singer and BBC Radio 2 presenter Clare Teal will be co-presenting the evening, performing alongside a range of very special guests including Strictly Come Dancing lead singer Tommy Blaize, jazz/funk singer Vanessa Haynes, clarinettist Adrian Cox, young jazz original Giacomo Smith and acclaimed jazz musician Joe Stilgoe.
With Barker’s musical mastery and special guests raising the roof, Guy Barker’s Big Band Christmas can convert even the grumpiest bah humbugs to the joy of Christmas.
Tommy Blaize is quite simply one of the world’s finest vocal talents. As lead singer of the BBC Strictly Come Dancing band, Tommy is the man with the golden pipes whose unique, soulful sound is etched in the public consciousness.
Vanessa Haynes is a singer and piano player originally from Trinidad and Tobago but based in London. Vanessa has recorded and toured with several renowned artists, including Van Morrison, Chaka Khan, Daryl Hall and Dave Stewart.
Joe Stilgoe is an internationally acclaimed singer, pianist and songwriter. Joe has toured around the world with his band and as a solo act, appearing in festivals, jazz clubs and concert halls from Ronnie Scotts to Birdland in New York.
Named ‘London’s most charismatic reedsman’ by Time Out, clarinettist Adrian Cox has toured all over the globe during the last 20 years, and has performed with artists including Wynton Marsalis, The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra and Ronnie Wood.
Giacomo is part of Smitty’s Big Four, a group of jazz-addicted twenty-somethings. Their original approach appeals not only to jazz fans, but to a genre-blind audience who can relate to the accessible way in which these young virtuosos perform their unique material.
