    Big band favourite Guy Barker presents a swinging, soulful celebration of big band music from Count Basie to Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman and Louis Prima with a Christmas twist!

    The jazz trumpeter and composer is bringing a host of outstanding international jazz musicians in the form of the Guy Barker Big Band, specially expanded for this concert to up to 40 musicians, in what will be the fourth time he has performed at the Hall with these ensembles, which have been invited to play at the BBC Proms three times since 2012.

    Jazz singer and BBC Radio 2 presenter Clare Teal will be co-presenting the evening, and performing along with very special guests – Grammy-winning jazz vocalist Kurt Elling, lead singer of Incognito Vanessa Haynes, award winning alto-saxophonist Soweto Kinch, actor and performer Clarke Peters, and a cappella stars Accent.

    Clare Teal

    Singer and broadcaster Clare Teal is one of Britain’s best loved jazz artists, having won British Jazz Singer of the year three times, as well as BBC Jazz Singer of the Year. Having released eight successful albums, Clare continues to surge ahead on her mission to bring big band and swing to music lovers everywhere.

    Kurt Elling

    An international jazz sensation Kurt Elling is among the world’s foremost jazz vocalists. He has been GRAMMY nominated a dozen times, and was awarded the Grammy for Best Jazz Vocal Album in 2009.

    Soweto Kinch

    Alto-saxophonist Soweto Kinch is one of the most exciting and versatile young musicians on the British jazz scenes. He has amassed an impressive list of accolades and awards including a Mercury Music Prize nomination and two MOBOs for best Jazz Act.


    Accent is a international collaboration of musicians from around the world who, drawing inspiration from the vocal jazz pioneers who preceded them, meld jazz, pop and contemporary a cappella into one sound.

    Clarke Peters

    Best know as the actor from hit TV shows including The Wire and Tremé, Clarke Peters has been performing jazz and musical numbers since the beginning of his career. His career boasts multiple turns on West End and Broadway stages, as well as a BBC Proms performance at the Royal Albert Hall, and time in a soul band which provided backing vocals on Joan Armatrading’s Love and Affection!

    Vanessa Haynes

    Currently the lead singer in seminal acid-jazz group Incognito, Vanessa Haynes is a London-based singer who’s been on the scene for over 8 years. Vanessa has worked and recorded with artists like Van Morrison, Billy Ocean, Chaka Khan, Lulu, Anastacia, Leon Ware and Mario Biondi. She recently completed recording several tracks for Incognito’s new album In Search Of Better Days.
