Songlines return to the Elgar Room to present Debashish Bhattacharya, an Indian classical lap slide guitar player hailing from Kolkata.

Debashish Bhattacharya picked up his first guitar at age three and made his performing debut just one year later, on All India Radio. His compositions and playing have earned him global admiration, and a Grammy Award nomination in 2009 for his album Calcutta Chronicles, in the Best Traditional World Music Album category.

Debashish Bhattacharya has invented his own hollow neck slide-guitars, unique to his compositions (the 24-string chaturangui, the 14 string gandharvi and the anandi, a 4-string lap steel ukulele), which he will be playing in the Elgar Room as part of this special performance.
