On 9 May 2017, bittersweet British classic Brassed Off finally made it to the Royal Albert Hall for a special 21st birthday screening accompanied by the brass band that inspired the story – the Grimethorpe Colliery Band, plus members of the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra.
Some 4500 brass-band-film fans packed into the Hall to witness a piece of British cinema history as Brassed Off became the first British film to receive the ‘film with live orchestra’ treatment.
In the audience for this special screening were cast members including Jim Carter, Tara Fitzgerald, Stephen Tompkinson, Philip Jackson, Mary Healey, Melanie Hill and Peter Gunn, plus Writer/Director Mark Herman and Producer Steve Abbott, who reunited on the red carpet before the event.

At this event, audiences were encouraged to sign up with DKMS UK, joining brass bands from across Britain who have been pulling together and getting tested for a bone marrow transplant, to try and save the life of young trombonist Stephen Sykes, who was diagnosed with blood cancer Hodgkin Lymphoma in 2016.
