123rd BBC Proms season

2017 was the 123rd BBC Proms season; it marked 90 years since the BBC took over Henry Wood’s Promenade concerts, and 70 years since the Last Night of the Proms was first broadcast on television! A huge 322,000 people attended Proms concerts over the summer!

With 75 Proms at the Royal Albert Hall and 13 ‘Proms … at’ events around London and the UK, the season included 29 premieres, over 60 debut soloists, 10 Late Night Proms and the first ever Relaxed Prom.

We introduced three new tour guides to our team this year, bringing our group of knowledgeable and friendly guides to 14! They led some 5,000 tours around the building, to 63,000 guests.

This year audiences have consumed over 80,000 tubs of ice-cream, and nearly 42,500 bottles of champagne!

Over the last 12 months, we have welcomed in some 15,000 primary and secondary school children to unforgettable shows in our main auditorium, educational tours and curriculum-based workshops, plus 50 children have started a year of free instrumental lessons due to the Hall’s Maestro scheme!

In addition, 351 lucky young people attended 12 artist-led workshops from the likes of Sigma, Ryan Adams, Wizkid and Michael Giacchino.
