This year the Royal Albert Hall has hosted a huge 897 events, including 386 in the iconic main auditorium. We have welcomed in nearly 1,700,000 people to events in this iconic venue!

1,840 new friends

On 27 September we launched our first Friends & Patrons scheme, which gives supporters of the Royal Albert Hall access to an action packed programme of music, dance, circus, comedy, film and more. This year we have welcomed over 1,840 new friends to the scheme!

78 Awards

78 awards were given out at the Royal Albert Hall this year, as we glammed up to celebrate the best silver screen talent at the EE BAFTA Awards, the stars of the stage at the Olivier Awards, the biggest names in music at the BBC RADIO 2 Folk Awards, and the finest designers at the Fashion Awards 2017.

123rd BBC Proms season

2017 was the 123rd BBC Proms season; it marked 90 years since the BBC took over Henry Wood’s Promenade concerts, and 70 years since the Last Night of the Proms was first broadcast on television! A huge 322,000 people attended Proms concerts over the summer!

With 75 Proms at the Royal Albert Hall and 13 ‘Proms … at’ events around London and the UK, the season included 29 premieres, over 60 debut soloists, 10 Late Night Proms and the first ever Relaxed Prom.

5 film premieres

We hosted 5 film screening premieres in 2017 – the World premieres of the new Murder on the Orient Express film, Casino Royale in Concert and The Addams Family in Concert, plus the UK premiere of Jaws in Concert and, in December, the European Royal premiere of Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

5,000 tours

We introduced three new tour guides to our team this year, bringing our group of knowledgeable and friendly guides to 14! They led some 5,000 tours around the building, to 63,000 guests.

Working as a tour guide at the Royal Albert Hall is a tough job! On an average day, a hard working tour guide can walk more than 18,000 steps around the Hall!

80,000 ice-creams

This year audiences have consumed over 80,000 tubs of ice-cream, and nearly 42,500 bottles of champagne!

In July, we transformed the Royal Albert Hall into a huge grand dining room, for Dinners Week! 4000 hungry mouths were fed over 4 days, with rhubarb’s busy chefs cooking half a tonne of potatoes and 2000 ducks!

15,000 school kids

Over the last 12 months, we have welcomed in some 15,000 primary and secondary school children to unforgettable shows in our main auditorium, educational tours and curriculum-based workshops, plus 50 children have started a year of free instrumental lessons due to the Hall’s Maestro scheme!

In addition, 351 lucky young people attended 12 artist-led workshops from the likes of Sigma, Ryan Adams, Wizkid and Michael Giacchino.
