This year the Royal Albert Hall has hosted a huge 897 events, including 386 in the iconic main auditorium.

From the world’s best rock and pop acts, and hundreds of talented classical musicians, to film premieres, red-carpet award ceremonies and celebrations, it’s been another crazy year!

January

The beginning of the year saw the return of Cirque du Soleil to the Royal Albert Hall. It took 86 technicians 8 days to transform this Victorian concert hall for the show!

February

Amaluna told a tale of castaway romance filled with jaw-dropping performances and Cirque du Soleil’s signature mind-blowing acrobatics.

Cirque du Soleil returns to the Hall in 2018 with the UK premiere of OVO (Sunday 7 January – Sunday 4 March 2018), featuring mind-blowing signature acts including a stunning 14m high flying trapeze act – the biggest of its kind!

February also marked the return of the BAFTA ceremony to the Hall for the first time for 20 years! Look back as film’s biggest stars took to the red carpet, and picked up their awards on Cirque du Soleil’s stunningly transformed stage.

March

On 9 March 2017, comedian Russell Howard smashed a Royal Albert Hall record for the most consecutive performances by an artist, previously held by Frank Sinatra and Barry Manilow!

17 years after our first show in aid of Teenage Cancer Trust, the charity marked their 100th gig here on 30 March 2017, with a special concert from Roger Daltrey and The Who.

This year’s week of music and comedy in aid of Teenage Cancer Trust also included performances from Olly Murs, Pet Shop Boys, and the return of global megastar Ed Sheeran.

April

Across the year we gave away a huge 72 awards on our stage, and in April we hosted both The Olivier Awards and BBC RADIO TWO Folk Awards!

May

Our first two Films in Concert of the year were screened in May – Brassed Off Live and Harry Potter™ and the Philosopher’s Stone in Concert! View exclusive photos and read audience reactions from the premiere of Brassed Off Live.

Harry Potter™ will return to the Royal Albert Hall next year with a sensational live orchestral screening of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets™ (Friday 27 April – Sunday 29 April 2018).

June

This month we welcomed in a host of incredible musical acts, from chart-topping, Grammy Award-winning rockers Paramore, to the country-music stars of Nashville, as well as electo-legends Kraftwerk, and the unstoppable Phil Collins.

July

In July, we welcomed the BBC Proms back to the Royal Albert Hall for the 123rd season of the world-famous classical music festival. Building the stage took five days and 15 different technical teams!

August

A huge 322,000 people attended Proms concerts over the season, which included 29 premieres, 10 Late Night Proms, the first ever disability-inclusive Relaxed Prom, and the Proms debut of the UK’s first majority BME orchestra Chineke!.

58 days later, having enjoyed 90 concerts, 30 premieres, and eaten 35,000 tubs of ice cream… we celebrated the 123rd Last Night of the Proms, 70 years after the BBC first televised the final night concert. Watch highlights from an unforgettable summer of music.

Unstoppable global sensation Wizkid headlined the Royal Albert Hall’s first Afrobeats concert on 29 September, at an unforgettable Albert Sessions concert.

Also this month, Jools Holland presented a landmark concert celebrating 25 years of his iconic music television show with old friends of the show including the Foo Fighters, Van Morrison, Dizzee Rascal and Gregory Porter. Watch highlights from the show.

October

A month of films, movie composer concerts and heavy rock highlights followed, with both British rock five-piece Marillion and American hard-rock titans Alter Bridge making their headline debuts at the venue.

November

In November, we rolled out the red carpet once more for the star-studded World Premiere of Murder On The Orient Express, and gave our corridors an extra polish ahead of HM The Queen’s annual visit for the Festival of Remembrance.

As the nights closed in, we’ve ended the year in style with a sparkling selection of events, including Robert Plant’s long-awaited return to the Hall, the Fashion Awards red-carpeted ceremony with Swarovski, and Star Wars: The Last Jedi’s European Royal premiere.
