The Specials

The Specials is an English two-tone ska revival band which was formed in 1977. Featuring songwriter/keyboardist Jerry Dammers, Terry Hall on vocals, Lynval Golding on guitar and vocals as well as a rhythm section, the band helped pave the way for groups such as Madness and The Selector.

The Specials became famous for not only their unique sound but also for their mod-style 1960s period rude-boy outfits consisting of porkpie hats, mohair suits, and loafers. The band achieved two number ones with Ghost Town and Too Much Too Young and after seven consecutive UK Top 10 singles between 1979 and 1981, they broke up.

They reformed in 2008 and last year embarked on a 30th anniversary tour.

About Teenage Cancer Trust

Every day in the UK, six teenagers are told they have cancer. This is a rising figure and there are already more young people than children with the disease. These young people often get a raw deal, receiving hospital treatment in inappropriate facilities catering for children or the elderly.

Teenage Cancer Trust focuses on the needs of teenagers and young adults with cancer by providing specialist teenage units in NHS hospitals designed to give teenagers the very best chance of a positive outcome. As well as state-of-the-art facilities to keep patients occupied during long stays in hospital, the units provide an environment where teenagers can meet others in a similar situation.
