RECENT EVENTS - Late Night Jazz - Ladies Sing The Blues

Wednesday 21 March 2012 - 9:45 PM

Ladies Sing the Blues | Royal Albert Hall

Ladies Sing the Blues, a brand new show featuring Gill Manly, Sarah Moule and Shireen Francis!

The Ladies’ individual singing careers have seen them perform sell-out shows at Ronnie Scott’s Club, the Royal Festival Hall, the Purcell Room, on BBC Radio 2‘s Friday Night Is Music Night, and in theatres, jazz clubs and festivals throughout the UK.

Here, with superb accompaniment from Simon Wallace, they come together to celebrate their musical icons, Billie Holiday, Peggy Lee and Ella Fitzgerald with anecdotes and personal interpretations of their signature songs in a wonderful program of classic jazz.

The Ladies’ exuberant mix of close harmonies and duets calls to mind the great vocal groups such as Lambert, Hendricks & Ross, while their stunning solo work shows why they have all established themselves as jazz singers of the first order.  Each brings a contrasting and original take on their chosen repertoire, from the understated purr of Fever and Black Coffee, to the infectious swing of The Lady Is A Tramp and That Old Devil Called Love

"Everything sounds effortless and her ballad singing is masterful. I remember thinking the day I first heard her [Gill Manly] that she was world-class" Claire Martin O.B.E.

"Sarah Moule, a fine voice and a great talent" Russell Davies, BBC Radio 2

"Shireen Francis is a  brilliant vocalist whose beguiling performance left me wanting more" Jazzwise Magazine
