Since 2005 the Royal Albert Hall has worked with Teenage Cancer Trust to offer a series of music workshops to run each day during their run of fundraising concerts.
The young people that attend are able to take part in a fantastic music therapy workshop, led by musicians from Albert’s Band, during which they get to play instruments and write songs in the style of that evening’s headline act and also share their experiences and form new friendships.
Those involved will be either receiving treatment, in remission, or in the palliative stages of the disease. For some, the supportive, positive atmosphere of the workshops enables them to reflect on personal experiences and journeys. For others, the sessions simply allow them to forget about the difficulties and traumas of treatment and focus on being a teenager again.
All of the musical instruments for these workshops are generously supplied free of charge by Yamaha Music London.
