Comedy returns to the Elgar Room with a bang in 2013, featuring some unmissable showstoppers

30 November, 2012

The Royal Albert Hall is delighted to announce the return of comedy to the Elgar Room in 2013.  Once again, cutting-edge comedians will entertain Elgar Room audiences with their lively banter and vivacious routines. This new season features great one-off shows from Peacock and Gamble and Doc Brown as well as the unmissable Elgar Room debut of The Showstoppers who bag their own regular night every Monday in February with their all-singing, all-dancing show with hilarious and unpredictable results.

The Elgar Room boasts a myriad of entertainment, playing host to regular jazz and classical gigs as well as dance, indie, cabaret and spoken word events. The comedians take to the stage in an intimate and friendly atmosphere that combines the comedy theatre experience with an underground comedy club vibe. This season’s sterling performers will be making their own distinct mark and welcoming devoted and new fans of comedy alike.

The critically acclaimed The Showstoppers headline this new season performing a regular slot every Monday in February for a brand new musical comedy experience in The Elgar Room. Having played sell-out seasons in London’s West End as well as being a must-see staple in Edinburgh for the past 5 years, they transform audience suggestions in to an all-singing, all-dancing show on the spot! Time Out describe their shows as “worth seeing again and again” and this incredible comedy troupe never fail to impress as they create shows packed with drama, dazzling dance routines and catchy melodies. Ticket price £18

Continuing the comedy in February, everybody’s favourite comedy nice boys, Ray and Ed, will dazzle The Elgar Room on Tuesday 12 February with Peacock and Gamble: Don’t Even Want to Be on Telly Anyway. Described by the Evening Standard as “crude, loud and bladder-poppingly funny” and Chortle Comedy Award nominees in 2011 and 2012, they will entertain audiences for a show full of fun, idiocy and handsomeness. Ticket price £12

To conclude this exciting season in style, the Elgar Room welcomes back Doc Brown with his brilliant mixture of music and comedy on Tuesday 30 April. With a successful Edinburgh run under his belt and appearances in The Inbetweeners, Rev and Miranda, Doc is a must see act and as The Guardian say “if Brown keeps mining this rich seam of hip-hop comedy, his fame should look after itself”. Ticket price £15

Get ready for another fine season of brilliant comedy, showcasing the best established comedy stars in a world-class venue.

recordings and new media channels.

The Royal Albert Hall is a registered charity and receives no public revenue funding. It hosts and celebrates live performances by artists from around the world and promotes, in partnerships with
Raymond Gubbay Ltd and other promoters, productions of opera, ballet, musicals and classical music. Each year over 360 events are held in the Hall’s auditorium which include performances of
classical music, jazz, folk and world music, circus, rock and pop concerts, ballet and opera, dance, comedy, tennis, charity concerts, film premieres, school events, award ceremonies and
occasions of national importance such as the Royal British Legion’s Festival of Remembrance.

Since 2004, the Hall has also been able to move forward with its ambitions to make this iconic building open to the public during the day through tours of the building, ignite and ignite brunch,
lunchtime jazz and world music in the Café Consort and a free exhibition series entitled reflect. In 2009, it opened a new state-of-the art small-scale performance space, the Elgar Room, which
now hosts classical recitals, comedy, jazz nights, family shows and hush, a series for emerging artists. As a charity the Royal Albert Hall is dedicated to giving access to all by running a thriving
Education and Outreach programme working with children, teachers, young people, families and community groups. We deliver a wide range of exciting opportunities linked to the Hall’s calendar
of events and the unique characteristics of the building, including specially created tours, workshops, projects and schools matinees.
