Royal Albert Hall provides the Hall free of charge for Spirit of London Awards

The Royal Albert Hall is delighted to award this year’s ‘charity free let’ to the Spirit of London Awards and the Damilola Taylor Trust and provide the Royal Albert Hall free of charge to host this celebration for inspirational young people in the capital.

The Royal Albert Hall’s ‘charity free let’ is part of the Hall's wider remit to provide public benefit as a landmark internationally renowned venue. Whilst the Royal Albert Hall is a charity itself, it actively supports other charities in their fundraising activities. Each year the Hall offers one ‘charity free let’ whereby a registered charity which is staging an event on behalf of that charity can hire the Hall without paying any rental or ticket commission. In addition, the Hall awards 40 charity lets each year which offer registered charities a 20% discount on the hire fees.
Jasper Hope, Chief Operating Officer of the Royal Albert Hall, said ‘Dozens of applications are received each year from a diverse range of excellent charities but the Spirit of London Awards stood out on this occasion as a shining example of an event which would lend itself spectacularly well not only to being held on the world's most famous stage but also as one which matches our own desire to deliver inspiration and support the pursuit of excellence, particularly by young people’.

Now in its third exceptional year, the Spirit of London Awards celebrates the greatest achievements of young people across London. The awards will be held at the Royal Albert Hall on Monday 10 October 2011 when the shortlisted nominees will join a stellar line-up of musical artists and celebrities to honour the city’s young people who strengthen their local communities.

In recent years, the Hall’s charity free let has been awarded to the NSPCC, Teenage Cancer Trust, The Salvation Army and Chickenshed Theatre Company. Charities have to complete a detailed application process about their charity, the type of event they wish to host and their expertise in putting on such an event a year in advance. Any charities who are interested in applying for a future charity free let should approach the Royal Albert Hall's programming department.
