MUSIC FOR YOUTH ANNOUNCES NEW SPONSORSHIP DEAL:

THE ROYAL ALBERT HALL – the Hall that entertains the world – BECOMES A SPONSOR OF MUSIC FOR YOUTH

Music for Youth, the world’s largest music festival for young people is delighted to announce that the Royal Albert Hall is to become a major sponsor.

The Royal Albert Hall is one of the most famous venues in the world, presenting over 370 shows a year in its breathtaking auditorium which feature both world-renowned performers from a range of genres and tomorrow’s stars. As a registered charity, the Hall provides public benefit by supporting a wide range of charities with their valuable work and providing a stage for many young performers throughout the year. Through the Hall’s Learning & Participation Department, which was founded in 2003, the Hall’s direct commitment to education has enabled over 150,000 participants to benefit from its work.

Set up in 1970, Music for Youth has a world wide reputation for delivering high quality, high impact, artistically adventurous performance opportunities for young people.  2.4 million young people have taken part in Music for Youth events since it began and notable alumni include Julian Lloyd Webber, Evelyn Glennie, Nigel Kennedy, Michael Collins, Jason Yarde, Thomas Adès, Simone Rebello, John Harle, Gary Barlow, Clio Gould and Matthew Barley.

Music for Youth and the Royal Albert Hall have a long standing relationship, with Music for Youth presenting the acclaimed Schools Prom concerts at the Hall since 1975. In 2005, both organisations began working more closely together, staging the London Primary Proms, free inspirational concerts for young people performed by young people.

“Through the annual Primary Prom concerts we have developed an excellent creative partnership with the Royal Albert Hall’s Learning & Participation team” says Lincoln Abbotts, Chief Executive of Music for Youth. “We’re thrilled that the Royal Albert Hall has come on board as a sponsor. Performing at the Royal Albert Hall represents a milestone in any musician’s career and for our organisation to be more closely associated with the Hall is incredibly inspirational for all our young performers” continues Abbotts.

“This new sponsorship is an evolution of our partnership” says Chris Cotton, Chief Executive of the Royal Albert Hall. “It capitalises on the synergy between both organisations to support and nurture the nation’s young musicians. Music for Youth is a highly respected part of the music education infrastructure of the country. MFY concerts at the Royal Albert Hall remain among the most life-affirming and high quality events in the annual music calendar. (As quoted in the recent Darren Henley review).  Music for Youth and the Royal Albert Hall simply and clearly want to create more musical opportunities for young people"
