The Royal Albert Hall celebrates its 140th birthday with 140 tour tickets for £1.40

The Royal Albert Hall will be celebrating its 140th birthday on Tuesday 29 March by offering 140 tickets on their Front of House tours for £1.40, rather than the usual price of £8.50. These engaging tours give visitors the chance to explore the workings of this most iconic of buildings, bringing to life the Hall’s fascinating history and sharing some of its secrets.

The Hall opened in 1871 as part of Prince Albert’s vision to promote the understanding and appreciation of the Arts and Sciences, standing in the heart of South Kensington estate surrounded by museums and places of learning. The Hall, a registered charity, has been in constant use ever since, now presenting over 370 events in the main auditorium and over 120 other events throughout the building annually, and receiving well over one million visitors each year. Since the launch of the tours in April 2004, the Hall has welcomed over 125,000 domestic and overseas visitors to experience the magic of this Grade I listed building.

The Hall’s one hour tours cover all front of house areas including the auditorium and the Queen’s suite, the Royal Retiring Room. As the Hall is a working venue, each tour is unique and can include the opportunity to see rehearsals or the technical preparations for a show.

Tours will be limited to 20 people per departure and will run throughout the day from 10.00am to 3.30pm.  Booking in advance is strongly recommended as once the tickets are gone, they're gone! To book a place, please call the Box Office on 020 7959 0558 or visit

Royal Albert Hall

The Royal Albert Hall is the world’s most famous stage. Its breathtaking auditorium hosts over 370 shows a year by the world’s greatest artists. The magical atmosphere combined with inspired artists creates legendary events.  Opened in 1871 as part of Prince Albert’s vision for a centre for the Arts and Sciences, and a registered charity operating without public funding, it remains true to his founding ambitions within a modern context.

Extending the brand with over 120 events outside the auditorium, the Hall has broadened its appeal to younger, diverse audiences whilst still engaging its existing customers. It also works extensively with schools and young people through its Learning and Participation programme, reaching over 30,000 participants each year.
