Ten young people (five from RBKC and five from Westminster) who are not in education, employment or training (NEETS) or are at risk of becoming disengaged from activities and learning, will undergo a training course to learn the skills of a Press Photographer. They will each be given the opportunity to photograph five events at the Hall and their work will be exhibited in the amphi corridor as part of an exhibition documenting a year in the life of the Royal Albert Hall. Events will include two rock/pop gigs; one classical event; one theatre/opera or dance; one Learning & Participation event /reception or private view.
Kensington and Chelsea College have created a bespoke course for the participants whihc will hopefully enable them to finish the project with a BTEC level 1 diploma. In addition leading press photographers will run masterclasses during the course of the year as a way of providing ongoing training.
We will also document the young people’s own progress at the Hall through photography.
The resulting photographic exhibition will be showcased at the Hall in early 2012.
