Each spring Learning & Participation hosts a special schools' matinee performance of Raymond Gubbay's Classical Spectacular®. For schools in the London boroughs of Kensington & Chelsea and Barnet we aim to extend their visit to the Hall with a series of bespoke workshops that are delivered in school and based on the repertoire that the children will hear when they attend the main concert at the Royal Albert Hall. After consultation with teachers from each of the participating schools the workshops are specially designed to the requirements of the schools. In 2010 the Classical Spectacular Workshops will once again be led by musicians from Royal Albert Hall Learning & Participation's Albert's Band.
This project is funded by John Lyon's Charity and Peter Beckwith Harrow Trust.
Albert's Band is a unique mini orchestra made up of a core of fifteen professional musicians all of whom are selected not only for the quality of their performance but because of their passion and expertise in music education. Led by Kevin Hathway, the orchestra features one of each instrument that you would find in a standard symphony orchestra and specialises in educational concerts, events, projects and workshops organised by the Learning & Participation team at the Royal Albert Hall.
