  • Marathon Centenary

    18 December 2009

    To celebrate the centenary of the classic marathon race, representatives from the Royal Albert Hall and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra reenacted the century-old moment of sporting history. Participants didn't quite manage the full 524 laps of the arena managed in 1909 but their efforts were a fitting tribute to the heroics of C W Gardiner and Dorando Pietri in that famous race 100 years ago.

    The arena floor was turned into an ice rink for the first time in 25 years as the Imperial Ice Stars thrilled audiences with their interpretation of Cinderella.

  • 10th Anniversary of Teenage Cancer Trust Concerts

    The annual concerts returned to celebrate 10 years of successful concerts at the Hall raising money for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

    A stunning line-up included the reunion of Britpop legends Suede, the first post-Oasis shows by Noel Gallagher, a Hall debut for Them Crooked Vultures and Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder joining The Who on stage.

  • In Full Swing

    For one night only the Hall opened its doors for the biggest jive and swing event in London for years. The arena floor and stalls were transformed into a magnificent 5,000 square foot dance floor and saw participants joined by professional dancers and some of the best live swing bands around.

    One of the world's greatest thinkers delivered  an extremely rare public lecture, discussing the most recent scientific thinking about the mysteries of the universe featured in his new book The Grand Design. 

  • Close Encounters

    The Hall was the mother ship to a unique space festival in October 2010, hosting the Close Encounters Festival. Events included space-themed concerts, talks, inflatable planetariums, retro-cool film screenings including E.T. and Alien and much more.

    The whole building was transformed and offered a great mix of arts, science, fun and education!

  • Cirque du Soleil: TOTEM

    Cirque du Soleil returned to the Hall again with their new show TOTEM, exploring the evolution of mankind through their  breathtaking acrobatics and wonderful visuals.

    22 September 2011

    The multi-award winning and record-breaking singer made her Royal Albert Hall debut in front of a full house. The concert was recorded and released as a top-selling DVD.

  • The Phantom of the Opera - 25th Anniversary

    1-2 October 2011

    Cameron Mackintosh presented a lavish, fully staged production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's 'The Phantom Of The Opera'  to celebrate the show's 25th anniversary,  starring Ramin Karimloo as 'The Phantom' and Sierra Boggess as 'Christine'.
