Following the sad news that singer Andy Williams has passed away, we’ve taken a look at his numerous appearances at the Royal Albert Hall – from his Hall debut in 1968 to his last performance here in 2009.

He was best known for his numerous hits including his recordings of Moon River and Music to Watch Girls By, as well as hosting the Emmy Award-winning Andy Williams Show. He also performed many times at the Royal Albert Hall.

Andy Williams’ Royal Albert Hall debut was on 19 May 1968, as part of a run of concerts he co-headlined with composer Henry Mancini. In these performances he performed a number of well-known songs including Franki Valli’s Can’t Take My Eyes Off You, as well as a medley of Burt Bacharach numbers.

He returned several times in the 1970s, including a Royal Gala Night with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra*on  *17 & 18 July 1972, as well as in April & May 1974 when he presented a special of The Andy Williams Show with Michael Legrand, and a solo performance on *30 May 1978*that was captured on film, available to buy now on *Amazon*.

But it wasn’t just these solo gala performances in which Andy Williams made Hall history, he also performed at the Miss World pageant in 1977 and played in the Pro-Celebrity Tennis Tournament on 22 June 1984. His Tennis partner was American player Bill Scanlon, and their opponents on the day were Jimmy Hall and Fred Stolle.

After a long gap, Williams returned to the Hall on 1 July 2002 and returned to the Hall on a number of occasions in subsequent years, including in 2005 with special guest Petula Clark
